Six months ago it was suggested we should do a best wishes themed sweets box but with so much to do and a lack of inspiration we have only just got round to it. The sweets box has all the usual favorites, and the design has a genies lamp with the words best wishes drawn into the smoke, marvelous.
At the same time I decided to do a good luck one with a four leaved clover and an upturned horse shoe. Perhaps a bit predictable, but it make the point to anyone (probably in the western word) who happens to believe that sort of thing. I would say that I do not, but I do have two upturned horseshoes on my shed, so perhaps I do.
Years ago we with a friend had also developed this site www.cardsyoucandrink.com, have a look, we did this site simply for a bit of a laugh. We thought a few of the concepts might also be useful for Letterbox Friendly, the first of these is the Great Escape. It was designed as a gift for those escaping the corporate shackles. We now have it on a box.
Well we have not put much on this blog thing since we started our business, there has been just too much to do and everything else seems like a bigger priority. We are surviving in these difficult times. We have expanded our range moved from brown to white boxes and for the larger boxes we now deliver our gift boxes in a robust outer carton. Have a look below, the brown to white transition!!! Below there is also a piccy of our larger box slotting into our outer carton.

 bring back spangles
Its amazing how many people we’ve spoken to who reel off a long list of their favourite childhood sweets, now that they know we have started our website. This is normally followed by shock when we tell them that these sweets are still available when you look hard enough, and that in most instances we sell them on our site. One sweet we cant get our hands on though is the 70′s classic, Spangles. This tube of sweets looked like Tunes, as they were square with a dent in the middle. However, they came in loads of weird and wonderful flavours like Old English and Orangeade. They were lush and we want them back! We have therefore started an online petition to put some pressure on the manufacturers (Mars according to Wiki) so that they can start making them again. Sign our petition by clicking on the Spangles picture above.
 the new sherbet fountain
Have you seen what they’ve done to the Sherbet Fountain? Its gone all modern with a sleek plastic exterior. No doubt this is far superior in terms of food hygiene and product shelf life . However, part of the appeal of this legendary 70′s favourite was its home-mady paper case, and the challenge to eat up all the sherbet before the paper went soggy, so i’m not sure i’m entirely happy with this ‘improvement’. It also seems strange to replace environmentally friendly packaging for plastic as well, this is like the green movement in reverse!
However. the good news though is that the sherbet/licorice combo still taste great, and the branding is still recognisable from the previous version.
Box full of sweets for the grumpy old man in your life
One of the advantages of selling sweets is that presents for your family are simple- my kids wanted customised boxes for their birthdays, so naturally I had to do a special box for my husband for his 44th birthday. The obvious choice was to theme it ‘grumpy old man’ because anyone who knows him will know that this is exactly what he is. This is the man who will go on a 10 mile detour to avoid the Tyne Tunnel queues, because they make him so grumpy. Some of his many hates that get him grumbling are, in no particular order, bad drivers (those that dare to be in the space of the road he wishes to occupy), untidyness (even though he’s no angel himself), having to go to the sorting office to pick up parcels which couldnt be delivered (hence letterboxfriendly!), grown men in football replica kits, women wearing clothes 3 sizes too small…the list could go on and on.
So, we made him a grumpy old man gift box and packed it full of sweets. It even made him smile for a few minutes, until he found something else to grumble about. However, he thought it was such a good idea, he reckoned we should sell it on our website, so that we can share the joy with others. So, here it is, our Grumpy Old Man retro sweets gift box.
